Before the 2024 lottery, LSU considers Angel Reese's absence from the WNBA mock draft "insulting."

ESPN projects LSU women's basketball star Angel Reese at No. 8 in the upcoming WNBA Draft, surprising casual fans who expected her to go higher.

Despite first-round hype, Reese's chances of going first overall are considered low, aligning with industry draft experts' analyses since the previous NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Kim Mulkey expressed dissatisfaction with a previous No. 8 ranking, calling it an insult to Reese. Mulkey highlighted Reese's motivation and competitive spirit.

Reese's four-game absence this season garnered more attention than her on-court performance. With the issue resolved, focus shifts back to her strengths in rebounding, defense, and driving to the rim.

Questions linger about Reese's shooting range and offensive post moves, influencing perceptions of her potential in the WNBA.

It remains uncertain if Reese will enter the draft, as she still has another year of college eligibility. Top prospects can stay in the NCAA until 2023-24.

The mock draft, considering all potential draftees, projects Iowa's Caitlin Clark at No. 1 and UConn's Paige Bueckers at No. 2. These players differ in style, being more perimeter-oriented than Reese.

Draft discussions will intensify after the lottery for the 2024 WNBA Draft this weekend, fueled by the growing popularity of women's college basketball. Last year's WNBA Draft averaged 572,000 viewers on ESPN.
